The Indian Armed Border Force (SSB) has arrested a Bangladeshi national who was attempting to enter Nepal via the Maitri Bridge at Raxaul, along the India–Nepal border.

According to Indian media reports, the individual was apprehended during a routine patrol and document check on Tuesday night, and after completing the necessary legal procedures, was handed over to the Haraia Police in India.

The arrested individual, 27-year-old Md. Shiyam Hussain, is a resident of Munshiganj district in Bangladesh. His Bangladeshi passport, which was found in his possession, confirmed his citizenship. According to the passport, he was born on August 22, 1998, and the passport was issued on December 8, 2020, valid until December 7, 2030.

While attempting to enter Nepal from India, his activities appeared suspicious, prompting a document check at the Maitri Bridge itself. During the initial interrogation, he tried to mislead security agencies by introducing himself with a Hindu name.

During questioning, it was revealed that he did not have a valid visa or other legal documents required for entry into India. Indian security agencies are investigating his mobile phone, travel route, purpose for coming to Nepal, possible contacts in India and Nepal, and whether he had previously crossed the border in this area.

The Indian police are conducting a detailed investigation into how he was residing in India without valid permission, his purpose for entering Nepal, and whether any organized network was involved.
