The postal road in Saptari has been washed away during normal rainfall. The road has been washed away near the bridge east of Khurhuriya Tole, Bishnupur Rural Municipality-1, due to the rain cut caused by the rainfall two days ago.
Four-wheeled vehicles have already been moving one-way through the narrow bridge. However, now the road is being washed away near the bridge, causing additional problems in vehicle movement, said Ward Chairman Balram Yadav.
‘Since the risk of accidents has increased due to the road subsidence, we are preparing to repair the road immediately at the local level,’ he said, ‘However, since the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has predicted heavy rain in this area tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, it is necessary to reach the attention of the relevant office for concrete initiatives.’
Engineer Upendra Das, Information Officer of the Postal Highway Directorate, Planning Office, Itahari, said that the road section from Rajbiraj to the west had been handed over to the Road Division Office, Lahan, 4 months ago. ‘Now, the maintenance and other work of the road will be done by the Division Office,’ he said.
CDE Dhruv Kumar Jha, Chief of the Road Division Office, said that preparations are underway to carry out the ‘emergency work’ of the road through sealed quotations. "To reduce costs, we will proceed with the work by publishing a minimum of 7 days' notice," he said. "We have already collected details of the damage to the road due to rain."
Thousands of vehicles ply on this road daily, connecting the general public living near the Indian border to Rajbiraj, south of the East-West Highway in the western part of the district.
