One person died in a car accident in Siraha last night. Local Gunai Thakur, 50, was killed when he was hit by a car in Bhagwatpur, Mirchaiya Municipality-8, on Wednesday midnight.

According to the police, Gunai, who was sitting on a chair near a pole in front of his house due to the heat, was hit by a speeding Bagmati Pradesh 01-025 Cha 8971 EV car at around 11:30 pm. The car then crashed into the pole and fell into a drain.

Immediately after the incident, the locals who had gathered there were preparing to put Gunai in an ambulance and send him to the hospital when another pickup truck arrived, hit other locals who were deployed for rescue and ran away with the driver.

In the process, five people including Gunai, 39-year-old Rampukar Thakur, 32-year-old Subhli Kumari Yadav, a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old child, and some other locals were also injured, according to the District Police Office, Siraha. Of these, Gunai died on the way while being taken to Biratnagar for treatment.

According to the police, Rampukar, among the other injured, is being treated at a hospital in Kathmandu, while the others are being treated at hospitals in Mirchaiya. The police have already seized the car from the spot and the pickup from Chhaghare in Mirchaiya-7 on Thursday morning.
