On Monday, Finance Minister Yubaraj Bhattarai, while presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, announced that a 'Plastic-Free Madhesh' campaign will be launched in collaboration with the local level to control increasing environmental pollution.
Finance Minister Bhattarai said that special capital subsidies will be provided to local industries producing bamboo, jute, tobacco stalks or paper bags as an alternative to plastic for the purchase of machinery.
Similarly, the budget mentions that at least one 'smart eco park' will be built in every municipality to reduce increasing urbanization, industrial pollution and temperature rise, and a campaign to plant shade trees on the main highways and urban roads will be launched. The budget statement also mentions that a 'Fohor Bat Mohor' program will be launched to produce compost fertilizer and biogas from organic waste to provide a long-term solution to waste management in urban areas and connect it with income, and that electronic waste will be managed safely.
Despite the improvement programs compared to last year, the budget allocated for forests and environment is less . Last year, a budget of Rs 2.37 billion was allocated for the Ministry of Forests and Environment . But this year, only Rs 1.33 billion has been allocated .
