The Madhesh Provincial Government is going to run a 'model homestay' targeting dense Dalit settlements. The program has been included in the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 presented by Finance Minister Yubaraj Bhattarai on Monday.

Finance Minister Bhattarai announced that the Janata Awas and Income Generation Program will be run for extremely poor and landless Dalit families by effectively implementing the Provincial Dalit Empowerment Act.

He said that the Chief Minister's Housing Program will be launched to provide safe housing to the poor and homeless citizens within the province by integrating and strengthening the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Awas and Madan Bhandari Awas programs that were run in the past.

He said that an intensive literacy campaign will be launched targeting children from poor and marginalized communities to make the slogan 'Send your children to school, light a lamp for literacy' meaningful. Finance Minister Bhattarai said that a separate 'Provincial Scholarship Fund' will be established to provide scholarships to talented students from poor and backward families to study in highly technical subjects such as engineering and medicine.

Similarly, he announced that a 'Complete Health Insurance Coverage Campaign' will be implemented in cost-sharing with the local level, with the provincial government bearing the health insurance premium to bring access to quality health services to the extremely poor, Dalit and marginalized communities.
