The Madhesh government has revised the famous 'Beti Padhau, Beti Bachau' program introduced in 2075 BS. The program has been revised in the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 presented by Finance Minister Yubaraj Bhattarai on Monday.

This time, with the resolution of 'Educated Daughters: Safe Madhesh, Entrepreneurial Women: Prosperous Province', Finance Minister Bhattarai announced that the 'Chief Minister's Women Self-Employment Program' will be implemented to teach women technical skills and provide interest subsidies on concessional loans. The budget also mentions that full scholarships will be provided to girl students who have studied in community schools and want to pursue technical education.

On Bhadra 15, 2075 BS, the then Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut launched the Chief Minister's 'Beti Padhau, Beti Bachau' campaign.

Why did the 'Beti Padhau, Beti Bachau' program become controversial?

Under the campaign, the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers purchased 27,262 bicycles in two phases. Although the bicycles were purchased in both phases, the prices were different. According to the office, the first time the price per bicycle was Rs 6,432. In the second time, Rs 8,446 was paid, which is Rs 2,14 more than the previous time.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) raided the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Asoj 2078 on suspicion of irregularities in the bicycles purchased under the campaign. This was also the first time that the CIAA raided the office of the head of the provincial government. The CIAA had taken control of the purchase-related files and the commodity account.
