The first district convention of the National Independent Party (NISP), which was postponed due to internal disputes, is set to be held on Monday.
The dispute regarding the list of district representatives was resolved after discussions between both parties at Hotel Vishwa in Birgunj on Sunday in the presence of the party's Organization Department Secretary Shankar Shrestha, according to party sources. With the agreement, the district convention and election process will be carried out simultaneously from 8 am on Monday.
Before the district convention scheduled for Sunday, on Saturday, while the election process was underway at Hotel Gateway in Ghantaghar in Birgunj, there was a dispute between two groups of the party regarding the list of voters, i.e. district representatives. As the dispute escalated, there was even a scuffle between the cadres.
After that, the election committee postponed the election process until 8 am on Sunday. Although the coordinator of the election committee, Dr. Nandan Yadav, issued another notice on Sunday, informing that the process would resume from 3 pm, the convention could not be held as the dispute could not be resolved.
The NISP has stated that the convention and leadership selection process will proceed from Monday as an agreement was reached on the disputed issues after the discussions held on Sunday.
