Police have taken Satyaraj Ghimire, the personal secretary of Birgunj Metropolitan Mayor Rajeshman Singh, into custody. The police took him into custody from the Parsa District Court premises at around 10 am on Monday.

‘We could not find out for what reason he was arrested,’ Mayor Singh’s press advisor Nawaraj Phuyal said, ‘A large number of security personnel were seen in the court premises since morning.’

Parsa Police Spokesperson DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet said that Ghimire was taken into custody for questioning. ‘We took him into custody because we needed to question him on some issues,’ he said, ‘The questioning is ongoing.’

Earlier, last Tuesday, the Parsa District Court had issued an arrest warrant against Mayor Singh for a document-related offense. The police are searching for him.

Four cases had been filed against Mayor Singh, but the arrest warrant was issued for a document-related offense. A complaint was filed that Mayor Singh had issued citizenship to someone else’s daughter based on fake documents. On the same basis, the court has issued an arrest warrant. The court has allowed the arrest based on the complaint of Birgunj local Liaqat Ali.

Mayor Singh is not in Birgunj. The last time he was seen participating in a religious ritual at a religious place in Siwan, Bihar, India, was seen on social media.
