Lahan Municipality-13 Ghaletol Musahar settlement has been handed over to 20 families. Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary handed over the houses to the families during a program on Friday.
The people who got the houses are squatters from the Musahar community, who are considered extremely poor. The houses have been constructed under the municipality's safe housing program for the poor on the land where they have been living since then.
These houses have two living rooms and a kitchen. The house has been plastered using bamboo and zinc on the top. The municipality has invested Rs 69 lakh 4 thousand 5 hundred 96 and Habitat for Humanity Nepal Rs 16 lakh 66 thousand 6 hundred 96, and the beneficiaries contributed Rs 2.15 lakh in labor and technical assistance from the Bhawani Integrated Development Center, the municipality has stated.
Mayor Chaudhary informed that the lifespan of these houses will be more than 30 years. 'The state should be for the poor citizens, and with this sense of responsibility, we have been building houses for Dalit squatters,' Chaudhary said, 'This is not just a house, it is the presence of the state in the courtyard of the poor.' According to Mayor Chaudhary, nearly 200 such houses have been built in the municipality so far in wards 15, 12, 22, 21 and 13.
