Businessman Durga Prasad Prasai, who was arrested from Birgunj on Monday night, has been remanded in custody for 3 days by the court. The police obtained a 3-day extension of his remand from the Parsa District Court on Tuesday for investigation against him under the Electronic Transactions Act and crimes against the state.
The police claim that Prasai's statements made through various media and social media are in a way that spreads hatred and malice against public decency, affects ethnic and communal harmony, and creates contempt for the government.
Parsa Police Spokesperson DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet said, "We have taken Prasai under control because he made various kinds of unfounded and unhealthy critical statements about the government's work and actions, showing hatred, malice or contempt for the government."
Prasai was arrested at 8 pm on Monday from Siddhartha Diyalo Hotel in Birgunj by a team deployed from the District Police Office and Ward Police Office Birta.
Prasain's supporters demonstrated in the area around the District Police Office, Parsa, on Tuesday, demanding his release.
