On April 29, Ramesh Yadav, the education coordinator of Boudhimai Municipality, called him and said, “The Chief Administrative Officer has called me, come.” Rambabu Yadav, a teacher at Shree Shankar Secondary School in Boudhimai-8, reached the municipality office in the afternoon. 45 minutes after receiving the call, he rushed to the municipality office.
Yadav went straight to the office of Chief Administrative Officer Uday Shankar Chaudhary and asked, “Did you call me?” Chaudhary replied, “It must have been the mayor, not me.” After this, teacher Rambabu went to the office of Mayor Pradeep Kumar Yadav. Security guard Gajendra Yadav, who was standing at the door, took him inside. 7-8 people, including ward chairman Bindeshwar Yadav, were sitting in the mayor’s office. As soon as he saw him, Mayor Pradeep Kumar showed him a social media post (a post made by the Gen-G movement on social media on Bhadra 23, 24) and asked, ‘Did you post this yourself?’ Ram Babu replied, ‘Yes’.
Teacher Ram Babu had posted on social media, ‘Mayadi ward chairmen and mayors, which party are you the mayor and head of now? Don’t be ashamed, resign.’ As soon as Ram Babu replied, ‘Yes’, it is alleged that Mayor Pradeep Kumar indiscriminately beat him and ordered him to put a rope around his neck.
As soon as the incident of beating teacher Ram Babu became public, we have spoken to 7 people connected to the incident.
Teacher Ram Babu said that he was locked up in the city police custody for 6 hours on the instructions of the mayor after the beating. He says that he was locked up since 2:30 in the afternoon and not even given medicine. He was taken out from there and taken to the Bankul police station at 9:00 p.m. by the city police.
ASI Kulananda Yadav of the police station informed that Mayor Pradeep Kumar called him to ask him to understand that a teacher was under our control. 'At night, a government employee was taken into custody and when he came to explain, we refused to understand,' he said, 'I immediately informed the District Police Chief SP Saab. The district ordered not to understand. But, what happened? The city police took the teacher back after the instruction to understand.' After being returned from the post, the city police handed the teacher over to his relatives at around 9:30 p.m.
The next day, on 30 Baisakh, teacher Rambabu had reached the District Police Office to file a complaint against the mayor. Earlier, he had gone to the hospital to get the wounds from the beating examined. He had bandaged his right hand due to an injury. He met Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal at the District Police Office and informed him about the incident. ‘SP Rijal sent him to come with evidence if he was beaten,’ he said. The mayor said that if he was beaten, he should bring evidence, but he just accused him and sent him back.’
‘I am not in a position to speak now. A person like the mayor did something that would have cost him his life,’ he said about the incident. ‘When I went to the District Police Chief, SP, with a petition demanding action, he sent me back and asked me to bring evidence. Where can I go to seek justice?’
Mayor Pradeep Kumar says – A politically motivated cheap drama
Mayor Pradeep Kumar Yadav says the incident is just a politically motivated ‘cheap drama.’ He said that all the allegations against him are baseless and fabricated. He said that there was no abuse or beating of any kind against teacher Ram Babu. ‘The status that a person like the teacher has written on social media against the mayor and other public representatives is very regrettable,’ he said, ‘We called the teacher and asked him in the executive meeting. There was only a general question and answer session. I did not beat him up in any way. This is all a drama by teacher Ram Babu.’ He also claimed that the allegation that he was injured was false.
Teachers prepare for protest
Teachers have prepared for a protest saying that the District Police have not taken action on the petition they filed in Gaur demanding action against the mayor.
Teachers’ organizations have prepared for a protest saying that a person like the mayor tried to kill himself by beating him up in his office. In protest against the incident, representatives of the Nepal Teachers Association, Nepal National Teachers Organization, Progressive Nepal National Teachers Organization, Unified All Teachers Organization and Teachers Forum issued a statement on Saturday demanding maximum action against Mayor Yadav, Ward No. 8 Ward Chairperson Bindeshwor Yadav and Executive Member Sunil Jaiswal by Jestha 50.
The teachers' associations and organizations have warned of a phased protest if action is not taken against those who abused and beat up teacher Ram Babu. They have drawn the attention of the District Administration Office, Rautahat, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits and bringing them to justice.
