Kishori Ray, the campus head of Harikhetan Multiple Campus in Birgunj, was misbehaved on the campus premises on Thursday. Police have stated that Ray, who reached the campus on Thursday morning, was harassed and misbehaved by a group of 5/6 people.
Tension had been brewing in the campus area for some time after the incident. There has been a dispute in the community campus Harikhetan for the past one year, alleging interference and attempts at privatization by the governing body.
The dispute has further escalated after the decision to remove four teachers working on contracts from service in collusion with the recently re-appointed campus head Ray and the governing body. The campus administration had decided to terminate the contract services of Lal Kishore Prasad Patel, Ravindra Kumar Yadav, Pooja Gupta and Dilip Kumar Pandit with effect from Baisakh 21. Teachers and employees had been padlocking the campus and staging sit-ins in protest against the decision.
The dispute escalated as campus chief Raya repeatedly requested to open the lock, but no agreement could be reached. In the meantime, he was misbehaved on Thursday.
DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Parsa, informed that two campus employees have been taken into custody on charges of involvement in the incident and an investigation is underway. The police have not made their names public.
