An agricultural road was constructed in Pipara Tole a year ago. In the process, the land of local Birendra Sah was unilaterally taken. However, the road was not put into use. A team including the ward chairman took a dozer and cleared the same road on Monday.
After protesting that the road was being built by occupying only his land, Birendra said that the ward chairman and others beat him up and tied him to a tree and made him clear the road. 'I am not saying that there should be no development, but injustice has been done in a vengeful manner in the name of development here. I wanted a solution,' he said. 'But, when I protested, I was tied to a tree.'
In the video that went viral on social media, people including Ward Chairman Yadav are seen tying Birendra to a tree. In it, Ward Chairman Yadav is seen scolding Birendra. Ward Chairman Yadav said that Birendra had encroached on the road and that the locals tied his hands after he obstructed him while he was going to clear it.
‘An agricultural road was built there last year, but it was encroached on,’ he said. ‘Today, when he was going to clear it, Birendra obstructed him, and then the people tied him.’ Are you in the video? When asked, he said, ‘That is all wrong.’
Local Santosh Yadav has demanded action against the Ward Chairman, calling this move by the Ward Chairman inhumane. ‘The way people were tied to trees in the name of clearing a road that was forcibly built on private land, it is very inhumane and cruel,’ he said. ‘Legal action should be taken against the Ward Chairman.’
The police have taken an interest in the incident after a video of it surfaced. DSP Ramesh Bahadur Pal, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Siraha, informed that the incident has come to their attention and that a detailed investigation is underway.
