The District Administration Office, Parsa, has warned of strict action if private schools force students and parents to purchase textbooks and school uniforms only from specific shops.
The District Administration Office issued a public notice on Monday, stating that it has received complaints that some private schools have pressured parents to purchase books and uniforms only from specific shops, contrary to the prevailing law.
The notice states that serious attention has been drawn to the collusion between the school administration and businessmen to take financial benefits without even giving the consumers the discounts they deserve. Such activities have been termed as 'syndicate, monopoly and economic exploitation' and instructions have been given to stop them immediately.
The administration has warned that if such activities are not stopped, strict legal action will be taken against both the school and the concerned shop as per the prevailing law. It has also urged parents to file a complaint with the District Administration Office along with proof, bills or other documents that a school has forced parents to purchase goods from a specific shop.
The notice, signed by Assistant Chief District Officer Krishna Thapa, also states that the cooperation of all stakeholders is required to control activities against the interests of consumers.
