Birgunj Metropolitan City is preparing to cancel the registration of 88 cooperatives, taking action against long-dormant cooperatives.
The Metropolitan City issued a notice on Friday, stating that the registration cancellation process has been initiated because the cooperatives operating within its jurisdiction have not fulfilled their legal obligations, stopped their financial transactions and did not follow the procedures.
According to Nawaraj Phuyal, press advisor to Metropolitan Mayor Rajeshman Singh, it has been found that the cooperatives concerned have not submitted regular monthly progress reports, have not organized annual general meetings, have not submitted audit reports and have not entered details in the Copomis system. He said that the organizations have been completely inactive and out of contact for a long time.
The cooperative branch of the Metropolitan City has started the action process as per the decision dated Chaitra 12, 2082. Phuyal said that the investigation process was initiated after the matter of their involvement in activities contrary to the spirit of the cooperative campaign was made public through various media outlets.
Birgunj Metropolitan City has initiated action under Section 66 Sub-section (3) of the Cooperatives Act, 2074 BS and has issued a 35-day notice to the concerned organization for clarification and hearing as per Section 66 Sub-section (4) of the same act.
The Metropolitan City has also warned all the concerned cooperative organizations that if they do not submit the necessary documents and details within the stipulated time, the registration cancellation process will be taken forward.
