The work of determining the center point of the road for the main road expansion of the Tribhuvan Highway has been completed in Birgunj. The work that started last Tuesday was completed in a week. According to Bhola Sah, engineer of the Division Road Office, Hetauda, the work of determining the center point of the 8-kilometer Tribhuvan Highway up to Miteri Bridge was completed on Tuesday. A joint team including technical staff from the office, Survey Office Birgunj, Birgunj Metropolitan City, District Administration Office Parsa, and District Police Office Parsa were deployed for this work. The team identified the center point of the road as per the official standards of the Tribhuvan Highway and installed steel nails at that location. The team measured 25/25 meters from the center of the highway as per the standards, Sah informed. Although the structures along the highway were removed during the expansion of the highway on April 6 and 7, the actual center of the highway was not clear, so there was confusion among local homeowners. Most were confused about how far their physical structures should be removed. The Division Road Office had used a dozer in the initial phase on 1,200 structures in two days.

Now that the center point of the highway has been determined, homeowners whose houses have been demolished are also becoming certain about the structures they need to remove. The homeowners will have to dismantle and remove the structures that have been demolished and the remaining ones that need to be demolished themselves. Engineer Sah also said that the office has not yet given a deadline to homeowners to remove the structures. ‘This has not been done because homeowners are removing their own structures,’ he said. ‘Now that the survey work is complete, estimates and designs are being made to build a 6-lane highway, and the remaining work will proceed gradually.’
