The country's only National Sugarcane Research Program, Jeetpur, which is responsible for conducting new research in the sugarcane sector, has been facing a shortage of staff.

The office, which has a staff strength of 26, is currently staffed by 9 employees. There is 1 post of Chief Scientist in the office, but that post is vacant. Similarly, there are 6 posts of Subjective Scientists, but only 2 are working. There are 3 posts of Senior Technical Officer, but all three are vacant.

There are 3 posts of Technical Assistant, but only 2 are working. There are 8 posts of Technical Assistant, but only 4 are working. There are 1 post of Administration Assistant, Heavy Vehicle Driver and Chief Administration Assistant, but all three are vacant. Although there is 1 post of Accounts Officer, he is also fulfilling the dual responsibility of the Agricultural Equipment Research Center, Ranighat, Birgunj.

Office Chief Dr. Dilraj Yadav says that due to the shortage of technical manpower in the office, it is difficult to fulfill the main objective of the office. ‘The main objective of the office is to conduct new research related to sugarcane crops,’ he said, ‘for that, research projects, innovation, and operations should be carried out.’ In addition, although research on soil health and crop diseases and pests should be carried out, the office is facing problems in carrying out its responsibilities due to the lack of technical manpower, he said. ‘We are facing problems in developing new technologies,’ he said, ‘due to the lack of manpower, our work is not yielding the results it should.’
