Under the campaign launched by the District Administration Office, Parsa on Sunday, 325 physical structures built encroaching on the Gandak Canal area were removed on the first day. This campaign was started using dozers since morning. In this process, the encroached Gandak Canal land in various local levels of Parsa district was made encroachment-free on the first day.

According to Engineer Suresh Sah, Information Officer of the Narayani Irrigation Management Office, Birgunj, four dozers, one from the office, one from the Mechanical Irrigation Management Office, and two from various local levels, were mobilized in this campaign.

'Two dozers demolished the encroached structures in Parsa district from Jagarnathpur Rural Municipality to Mahuwan in Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality, and two dozers demolished the encroached structures in the area from Gandak Chowk in Birgunj to Mahuwan Chowk,' he said. 'A campaign to remove encroachments will be launched towards Bara district on Monday.' Sah said that there were no obstacles or opposition from the encroachers during this campaign.

According to Sah, 40 families in Mahuvan encroached on the land of Parasnath Math and built houses, and those structures have also been demolished in the process. While there was no encroachment on the canal land in the past, encroachment increased after the change in 2046 and reached its peak recently. The Narayani Irrigation Management Office has tried to remove the encroachment several times, but it has not been successful.

After the local administration issued a public notice 3 days ago and directed to remove the structures built on the canal land, some of the structures were removed on their own.
