The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Rautahat branch submitted a memorandum to the Chief District Officer on Thursday, demanding an end to the monopoly on government advertisements.
A team of the federation led by District President Sanjay Kumar Karki submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal. Chairman Karki informed that the FNJ has submitted a memorandum expressing strong objections to the government's decision to limit advertisements only to government media.
As per the circular of the central committee of the federation, a team including Chairman Karki met Chief District Officer Bhusal in his office and submitted a memorandum demanding the repeal of the policy.
The federation has stated that it has drawn serious attention to the secretary-level directive issued by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers that all government advertisements from the federal to the local levels should be published and broadcast through government media. The Federation has positively welcomed the government's efforts to reform the advertising sector and has concluded that the policy of displacing private media on the basis of that is contrary to the constitution, prevailing laws, international norms and the essence of an open market economy.
The memorandum states that the financial basis of many radio, newspapers, television and online media will be seriously affected.
The Federation has also demanded that the provincial and local governments reject the unconstitutional directives and fulfill its demands immediately.
