Organizations working in the field of child rights have submitted a suggestion letter to the Madhesh Province government demanding a ban on the use and sale of junk food in schools and communities.

The Madhesh Province government has been suggested to bring policies and plans to solve the problems of children in the policy and program and budget for the upcoming fiscal year 083/084.

The Madhesh Province Children's Club Network and the Civil Society Network for Child Rights handed over a suggestion letter to the Policy and Planning Commission on Friday, covering the rights and interests of children.

Representatives of the Children's Club Network from Saptari, Kalpana Kumari Sah from Dhanusha and Mahima Sah from Mahottari, INSEC representative Raju Paswan and Bir Bahadur Ale from Sabal Nepal handed over the suggestion letter to Dr. Shila Mishra, a member of the Policy and Planning Commission. Ale informed that the provincial government was suggested to bring policies and plans based on the suggestions collected by the Children's Club Network from all 8 districts of Madhesh Province for the rights and interests of children.

‘We have suggested that the use of junk food should be banned in schools and communities,’ Ale said, ‘Our study has shown that junk food has a problem with the overall development of children. Therefore, the provincial government should come up with a policy to stop the use of junk food.’ According to him, the Madhesh provincial government has been given point-by-point suggestions in the areas of child protection, child protection, child participation, child development, and the impact of children and climate change.

Raju Paswan, coordinator of INSEC Madhesh province, said that the provincial government should come up with a policy and plan to protect children in Madhesh from mental stress and increasing suicides.

‘There are many problems and difficulties in the field of child protection in Madhesh province. It is only when the governments of all three levels come up with policies and plans to solve them,’ Paswan said, ‘Due to open borders, the number of children falling into drug use and addiction is increasing.’ We are saddened, but we are reluctant to bring policies and plans to keep children away from it.'

Dr. Mishra, a member of the Policy and Planning Commission, said that the Madhesh Provincial Government is serious about the protection, rights, education and health of children and is bringing policies and plans every year. 'In the field of children, the Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health of the Madhesh Provincial Government have been bringing policies and plans every year,' she said, 'I will try to include the suggestions given by the Children's Club Network in the policy and program and budget for the coming year.'
