Khairbona Tole of Sabaila Municipality-12 of Dhanusha has been declared child marriage free. In line with the goal of making Nepal child marriage free by 2030, a campaign was launched to declare Sabaila of Dhanusha.
Janaki Mahila Jagran Samaj in partnership with Plan International Nepal has been running a campaign to reduce child marriage for the past 2 years under the Empowered Girls Project, said Mandakumari Karna, president of Janaki Mahila Jagran Samaj.
Ramdev Yadav, Chief Administrative Officer of Sabaila Municipality, said that the campaign launched to reduce child marriage has helped Sabaila Municipality. He expressed his commitment to provide programs, support and leadership in the field of children. ‘This campaign has achieved significant achievements,’ he said, ‘now the municipality will focus on regular regulation and monitoring.’
House surveys, door-to-door visits, commitment collection and public awareness activities have been carried out for the past 3 years to declare Khayrabona Tole child marriage free. At the child marriage-free declaration meeting, excited children performed various dances and songs reflecting Maithili culture.
Ram Narayan Adhikari, Ward Chairman of Sabaila Municipality-12, expressed happiness that Khairbona Tole in his ward has been declared child marriage-free. He suggested that the child marriage-free campaign started from his own ward and should be expanded to other wards as well.
