Work has progressed to bring the Kamala River bridge, which is located on the border of Siraha and Dhanusha along the Postal Highway, into operation by mid-Ashar. The speed of the bridge construction has been increased following the directives of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

Siraha 1 MP Shiva Yadav, Director General of the Postal Highway Directorate Kuber Nepali and others visited Kamala on Monday and inspected it. They inquired about the ongoing work with the contractor and returned with necessary instructions.

According to MP Yadav, earlier, the ministry had discussed the matter with Minister Sunil Lamsal, the secretary of the ministry and others. 'During the discussion, the minister has instructed the relevant bodies on how to complete the work and operate the bridge within Ashar,' said MP Yadav.

Although the construction of this bridge began 14 years ago, it is still incomplete. In Mangsir 2068, a contract agreement was signed with Pappu Lumbini Builders JV Construction for Rs 249.1 million to complete the 470-meter-long and 11-meter-wide bridge within three and a half years.

However, despite repeated extensions, the construction was not completed even after 10 years. In 2075 Poush, after the Postal Road Struggle Committee led by Siraha leader Ramrizhan Yadav began a relay hunger strike, the Postal Highway Directorate terminated the contract from Pappu Construction and signed an agreement with Lumbini Builders Construction on 2076 Asoj 1.

When the work was in the final stages to be operational by Asar 2078, the bridge was washed away by a general flood on Asar 17, 2078. Since then, the contractor has been carrying out the reconstruction work at a slow pace, causing delays in the operation of the bridge.
