The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Rautahat branch and center issued a statement on Monday, saying that it is condemnable to insult a person's social reputation through social media and demanded action against the culprits.

A few days ago, a Facebook ID named 'I Support Prabhu Sah' targeted Rautahat journalist Sanjay Kumar Mishra and used indecent language. The abuse was made from that ID based on the fact that journalist Mishra wrote a news story about Aam Janata Party's alternative central member Rajan Sah leaving AJPA.

The FNJ's central general secretary Ram Prasad Dahal has said that the incident is a direct attack on press freedom and that it is condemnable to insult a person's social reputation. It is stated that the FNJ's attention has been drawn to the abuse of journalist Mishra in indecent language through Facebook.

A statement issued by the Federation states that insulting the social reputation of a person who is not satisfied with the news and does not seek a solution according to the prevailing method is not only condemnable but also a social crime. The Federation has demanded that the concerned body investigate the incident and take action against the culprits and support the press in exercising its constitutional rights.

Gautam Shrestha, Secretary of the Federation's Rautahat branch, expressed dissatisfaction with the news published on the issue of a member of the Aam Janata Party leaving the party, stating that it is indecent to abuse journalists and a mockery of press freedom.

The Federation has urged the concerned body to immediately stop such activities that force journalists to work in an environment of threats and fear and to ensure the safety of media personnel.
