A seminar was organized in Birgunj on Sunday with the aim of further strengthening economic cooperation between Nepal and India.
The seminar on ‘Nepal-India Economic Cooperation: Inauguration of New Trade Opportunities’ organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, Birgunj and the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry was attended by a significant number of representatives and office bearers of various chambers of commerce and industry of Nepal and the state of Bihar, India.
At the program, Consul General D.S. Meena highlighted the deep economic ties between Nepal and India and highlighted the efforts being made to further strengthen bilateral trade. He also discussed the role played by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and the Consulate General in Birgunj in trade facilitation.
According to Meena, India has been strengthening economic relations through infrastructure development such as integrated check posts, dry ports, railways and digital connectivity. He also called on Nepali businessmen to collaborate with Indian partners, stating that there are ample opportunities for joint investment in sectors such as startups, information technology, tourism and agro-processing.
Senior Vice President of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Madhav Rajpal, Subhash Kumar Patwari, Manish Kumar, former presidents of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ashok Vaidya and Om Prakash Sharma and Ripu Raman, among others, expressed their views at the seminar.
The speakers participating in the seminar pointed out the potential for expanding trade between Nepal and India and said that cooperation is necessary to resolve existing challenges. The participants in the program also discussed measures for trade facilitation through mutual interaction.
