Bishwanath Sahni, 30, of Biruwa Tole, Parsagarhi Municipality-3, who was absconding after brutally attacking his wife, has been arrested.

Parsa Police Chief Superintendent of Police Sudip Raj Pathak made public information about Sahni's arrest at a press conference organized at the District Police Office on Sunday.

According to him, Sahni had deliberately attacked his wife, 25-year-old Harikala Devi Sahni, with a sharp weapon (dao) at 8:30 am on Chaitra 18 due to a domestic dispute. Harikala was seriously injured and her left leg was amputated in the attack.

After the incident, the injured Harikala was immediately admitted to LS Neuro and General Hospital, Parwanipur Bara for treatment with the help of locals. But the doctors amputated her leg during the treatment.

Immediately after the press conference, the victim's mother Sumitra Kami has received Rs 50,105 from the Gender Violence Control Network fund. Superintendent of Police Pathak handed over a check of the amount to Sumitra Kami. Similarly, Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Basnet personally handed over Rs 5,000 as assistance.

Harikala's mother Sumitra said that her daughter ran away and got married after falling in love with Bishwanath over the phone 8 years ago. She also said that she regularly provided financial support to her daughter to run her household.

Harikala's father Rajkumar said that his son-in-law Bishwanath had recently tried to go for foreign employment and had asked him for Rs 1 million for that, and that he would give the same amount after getting a visa. Despite assurances, the son-in-law said he had received information that his daughter was being tortured by repeatedly demanding the money.
