There has been a decline in rice production in Parsa this year. According to the Agricultural Knowledge Center Parsa, rice production has decreased by 24,997 metric tons this year compared to last year.
This year, 172,967 metric tons of rice have been produced in an area of 47,130 hectares across the district at a rate of 3.67 metric tons per hectare.
In the last financial year, 197,940 metric tons of rice were produced in the same area at a rate of 4.2 metric tons per hectare. Thus, rice production has decreased by 12.16 percent this year.
According to Ramjivan Thakur, head of the Agricultural Knowledge Center Parsa, the unseasonal rains in Asoj and the floods that came with it have caused serious damage to the rice crop. "This year, planting was delayed due to drought," he said, "and then heavy rains and floods during the planting period further damaged the crop."
Since rice is the main crop in most local levels of the district, the decline in production is seen to have a direct impact on farmers' income.
