An eye and ear check-up camp has been completed at the prison in the district headquarters. The District Police Office, Siraha and the Prison Office, Siraha have organized the camp in collaboration with Sagarmatha Chaudhary Eye Hospital, Lahan.
During the day-long camp on Wednesday, 227 prisoners underwent free eye and ear check-ups. Out of these, 13 were diagnosed with cataracts.
Similarly, 12 people were provided with powered glasses and other prisoners including them were provided with free medicines, said District Police Office, Siraha Chief Basudev Pathak. He said that prisoners diagnosed with cataracts will undergo surgery.
Similarly, film screenings have also been started inside this prison to make the prisoners 'fresh'. Films that motivate prisoners who have been tried and convicted in various cases to correct their mistakes have been shown.
The last time a movie was shown in the prison on the evening of Falgun 27 for 3 hours through a projector, SP Pathak said, adding that it will be shown again at regular intervals.
'They stay there in a daze, it keeps them fresh, the other main thing is that we want to see if the movie medium inspires them to be honest and become good people,' Pathak told Kantipur, 'The prison should not be a torture chamber, but a reformatory.'
