A one-day training on capacity building and practical aspects for members of the grievance management mechanism operating committee at the enterprise level has been completed in Birgunj.

Members of grievance hearing mechanisms from various industries participated in the training organized on Saturday under the Women Empowerment, Prosperous Nepal program.

Inaugurating the program, Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Hari Gautam pointed out the need for an effective grievance management mechanism to make the workplace safe, dignified and equitable.  He said that such training would be useful for protecting the rights of workers working in industries and solving various problems arising in the workplace.

Assistant Director Hari Poudel gave a presentation on the objectives and operation of the program.  The training was organized under the 'Women Empowerment, Prosperous Nepal' program run by the Federation with the financial support of the European Union and in collaboration with the International Labor Organization, one of the four organizations under the United Nations.

According to the coordinator of the program, Vasudevlal Karna, members of the grievance redressal mechanisms of five industries in Madhesh Province were provided with experimental and practical training on addressing sexual violence and abuse in the workplace.

The participants in the training were trained by Advocate Sharmila Shrestha. She provided detailed information on reducing gender-based violence in the workplace, effective operation of the grievance management mechanism, and creating a safe work environment.
