Six illegal huts built in the national forest have been demolished in Chandrapur-6 Beldi, Rautahat. Recently, forest encroachment groups have been active in this area.
A joint team of Chandrapur Sub-Division Forest Office, Area Police Office Chandranigahapur, Armed Police Force Base Camp Santapur and Rangpur Partnership Forest Users Group demolished six illegal houses and huts built in the forest area and removed encroachment, informed Division Forest Chief Hemanta Prasad Sah. The houses and huts in the area were removed by late Thursday night. The forest department has said that it has increased surveillance in the area where the houses were demolished.
While forest officials were deployed for the elections, some locals had built houses and huts in the forest area overnight. ‘We have removed the illegal structures to clear the said forest area,’ he said, ‘We are trying to stop the work of building houses by destroying the forest. We will not tolerate forest encroachment under any pretext.’

Encroachment is increasing in various places in the district every day. The district has a total of 29,436.330 hectares of national forest area. The Forest Office has stated that 3,190,520 hectares of forest have been encroached on recently.
Encroachment has been taking place in the Bagmati, Balrikhor, Maira, Chandrapur, Judibela and Gaindatar areas of the district. Earlier, the Division Forest had removed maize crops and fences planted in 17 hectares of national forests in Gaindatar, Paurai, Vrindavan and Dhansar areas and restored the forest area, said Forest Chief Sah.
