A man has been arrested on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl in Birgunj.
The police have taken the 50-year-old man, a resident of Bhediahi, Birgunj Metropolitan City-15, into custody. The police arrested him on Monday after receiving a complaint of raping a mentally retarded girl, said DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet, spokesperson of Parsa Police.
The arrested man has been kept in police custody and further investigation into the incident is underway, and the process of the girl's health examination is underway, he said.
The police have stated that the identities of both the victim girl and the accused in the incident have been kept confidential.
The police have stated that they are collecting necessary evidence, taking statements and taking legal action to find out the truth of the incident.
