Police arrested Tara Bahadur Karki, ward chairman of Bajni village in Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City-3, on Thursday.

He was taken into custody from the Bajni polling station on charges of forging government papers and seals, said Simara Area Police Office Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilip Chhetri.

He is on the police's absconding list and was arrested while he was going to vote, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Chhetri. Karki, the suspended ward chairman, was elected to the local level in 2079 BS by the CPN-UML. He has been suspended for the last two years in a corruption case.

Karki, who was also the then district chairman and central member of the student organization ANNFSU, close to the UML, was Baburam Bhattarai's personal secretary when he was Prime Minister. After Bhattarai launched the Naya Shakti Party, he remained with the Maoists. Later, he joined the UML from the Maoists and was elected as ward chairman.
