Bara candidates' focus is not on big projects and archaeological sites

What you should know

There are many projects with development potential in the district. Spreading from the Chure mountain range in Nepal-India to Dasgaja, this district has the industrial hub of Birgunj-Simara region, Parsa National Park, Simraungadh historical and archaeological site, Gadhimai religious site famous in Asia, and other tourist and small customs in Dasgaja that can be upgraded and brought into operation. These issues could not become election issues this time.

None of the 110 candidates in the district showed any interest in these issues. ‘The candidates’ attention was limited to small matters in the village to attract votes, they did not pay attention to large development projects,’ said Rajkumar Sah, president of the Bara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ‘They only promised to build small agriculture, roads, and bridges. They raised the issue. They did not raise the issue of these big projects and areas that could lead to the economic progress of the entire district.’

The tourist spot, the proposed Nijgadh International Airport, is located in Simara's Special Economic Zone (SEZ) constituency number 4. The SEZ, spread over 850 bighas, was started in 2064 and only 6 industries are producing and exporting till now.

The SEZ was built with the aim of increasing exports. 'No voice was heard from anywhere for the development of the SEZ,' said SEZ Assistant Engineer Ajay Chaudhary. Similarly, the industrial hub in this area should be industrialized to increase the import of manufactured goods, a policy should be introduced to stop the trend of strikes that are constantly occurring due to the conflict between workers and employers, and the creation of employment for Nepalis rather than Indians in the industry, but the candidates from constituency number 4 did not speak out on this issue. There are 35 candidates in this area.

There are many policy problems in the construction of the proposed international Nijgadh airport in areas 3 and 1. But none of the 44 candidates from this area raised these issues as issues. The candidates did not seem to have paid attention to the work of pressing for the construction of the Terai-Kathmandu fast track, which has Nijgadh as its origin point, and formulating a policy to prevent damage to the wild and national animals of Parsa National Park and human settlements and between humans.

The country's oldest Simara Airport needs to be upgraded. But this did not become an election issue. Similarly, there are small customs posts in all 4 constituencies. But they are not operational. Traders have been affected by their non-operation. Birgunj customs is forced to run. Despite the calls from the general public and traders for its operation, it did not become an election issue. The historical and archaeological Simraungadh, which was attacked by Gyasudin Tughlaq, falls in Constituency 1. The ruins and artistic sculptures here are dilapidated and perishing due to lack of protection.

Local journalist Rameshwar Mehta said that Simraungarh is an open museum with potential. He complains that it is not given due importance. Hundreds of ponds here have become centers of attraction and beauty. Similarly, although there is always talk about the larger development of Gadhimai, a famous religious site in area number 2, local social worker Vijay Swarnakar said that no candidate has discussed it and it has not become an agenda. 29 candidates are in the fray in this constituency. Even the work of preparing a master plan for Simraungarh and Gadhimai has not been done.
