The victim's family and relatives are protesting in front of Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj, Saptari, alleging that the death of a woman in childbirth was due to the negligence of doctors.

They are demanding an investigation into the incident, action against the culprits and compensation. They are protesting by burning tires and had earlier pelted stones at the hospital administration.

Sujan Devi Sada, 25, wife of Santosh Sada of Bishnupur Rural Municipality in the district, was brought to the hospital from Maiti Chinnamasta Rural Municipality-5 Lokhram on Friday to give birth. Sujan, who was shifted to the post-operative ward after surgery on Saturday, died on Sunday morning after vomiting.

Her father-in-law Pulkit Sada has alleged that when Sujan vomited at around 3 am, there was no doctor in the ward and that the doctor was negligent during the surgery as well. ‘The daughter-in-law died due to the doctor’s negligence,’ he said, ‘The culprits should be investigated and action should be taken.’

Acting Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. Dilip Sah said that the mother and the child are completely healthy after the surgery. However, Dr. Sah said that the woman died after vomiting reached her respiratory tract.

‘The woman was also suffering from TB,’ he said, ‘there was no error in the surgery.’ Regarding the absence of a doctor in the ward when she vomited, Dr. Sah said that only nurses were there.
