Locals have warned that they will boycott the upcoming House of Representatives elections if a polling station is not established in Harkatti, Aurahi Rural Municipality-1, Siraha. Locals of Harkatti and Kundalpur have announced a boycott of the vote.

Earlier, a polling station was designated for voters here in Darahiya. However, after local leaders took the initiative saying that this polling station was far away, the District Election Office, Siraha, had added a polling station to the basic school in Harkatti. However, after ward chairperson Suraitlal Thakur and four ward members jointly filed a writ petition in the High Court, Rajbiraj against the decision to add a polling station, the court has issued an order to immediately maintain the status quo. Locals are angry that there will be no polling station here.

There are 1,154 voters in Harkatti and Kundalpur. After the issue of polling stations became unclear, locals staged a two-hour sit-in at the gate of the ward office on Friday. "We had taken a lot of initiative to have the polling stations designated, but we are very saddened by the court order," he said. "If this issue is not resolved, we will not vote in this election."
