7,600 girls in Parsa have received the HPV vaccine, targeted to prevent cervical cancer.
Under the HPV vaccination program run in the district, all girls studying in class 6 and all out-of-school girls aged 10 have been vaccinated. The vaccination program began on 25th Magh.
The District Health Office is conducting this program. According to the office's vaccination officer, Jaymod Thakur, the target was to administer the vaccine to 9,752 girls this year under the program.
Last year, the office first launched this vaccination campaign in the district. Girls currently studying in classes 7 to 10 who were left out in the process are also being vaccinated this year under the program. He said that this free and safe vaccine is very effective. Girls aged 9 to 14 are being vaccinated under the campaign.
Cervical cancer caused by the HPV virus is becoming an increasing problem among women. The office says that it can be prevented by getting vaccinated on time.
