Former minister Umesh Kumar Yadav, who has filed his candidacy from Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal in Saptari Constituency No. 2, has announced that he will not contest the election after crossing the age of 65.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said that the party that continues to do politics and occupy positions even when its body does not support it has not been able to accelerate development in the country.

Yadav said that he has filed his candidacy with an agenda including protecting the honor and pride of the people here, the right to self-determination, constitutional amendment, human and physical development.

‘I will fight for the protection of the oppressed communities, solving the problems of the poor and squatters, development, development of the agricultural sector, employment for the youth, as well as direct participation of the people in the formulation of state policies,’ he said. ‘Even when I was a member of the Constituent Assembly and Minister for Irrigation in the past, I have given more time to the people here than in Kathmandu and done remarkable work.’

Yadav said that his priority will be to solve the problems of land grabbing, migration of traders, declining trust in educational institutions, dilapidated girls’ hostels, etc.

55-year-old Yadav was elected as a Maoist candidate in the 2070 Constituent Assembly elections. In 2074, he was defeated after becoming a candidate from the Maoist party. He was defeated as a candidate in the 2079 provincial assembly election. Recently, he joined the JSP and became a candidate for the House of Representatives.
