The festival, organized by Utkarsh Nepal and organized on Thursday at the Madhesh University campus here, was inaugurated by Shankar Chaudhary, Forest Minister of the Madhesh Provincial Government.

The second Madhes Literature Festival has begun in Birgunj from Thursday with the aim of promoting the language, literature and culture of Madhes.

The festival organized by Utkarsh Nepal on the premises of Madhesh University here was inaugurated by Shankar Chaudhary, Forest Minister of the Madhesh Province Government. The festival was presided over by the patron of the festival, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Rajesh Man Singh. A group of folk musicians inaugurated the festival by playing the Madhesh folk instruments Sahanai, Singha and Khurduk.

Literary figures, writers, poets and thinkers from Madhesh as well as from across the country are participating in the festival. Tableaux reflecting the customs, traditions and culture of Madhesh have also been presented at the festival venue. Madhesh folk dance and Tharu Jhamta dance were also performed.

After the inauguration, the main speaker of the seminar on the topic of ‘Village: Memory, Myth and Reality’ was Dr. Bhaskar Gautam. The speakers of the first session on ‘Village Youth: Escape, Policy and Alternatives’ were Basant Kumar Kushwaha, Vijayakant Karna and Dr. Saloni Pradhan Singh. The speakers of the second session on ‘Villages: Democracy and Power’ were Suresh Dhakal, Dr Sucheta Pyakurel and Dr Sabin Ninglekhu. Similarly, the speakers of the third session on ‘Villages: Memory and History’ were Dr Gopal Thakur, Dr Anjay Mishra, Dr Tribhuvan Barai and Rakesh Mishra.
