An agreement has been reached in Saptari to remove election symbols, including pylons, flags, posters and other materials, that were erected in violation of the election code of conduct within 24 hours. The agreement was reached on Tuesday afternoon between the District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee, candidates, party representatives and stakeholders.

As per the agreement, the party poles, flags, symbols or posters hung/attached/put up on government buildings, schools, monuments, street poles or public places will be removed by the concerned candidate or party. The candidates and party representatives have committed to removing those materials within 24 hours of the meeting.

If those materials are not removed within that period, the action mentioned in the election code of conduct will be taken as per the provisions of the election code of conduct, said District Judge Kishor Ghimire, coordinator of the District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee. ‘They (candidates and party representatives) have committed to remove the campaign materials that are against the code of conduct,’ he said, ‘They will remove them. If they do not remove them, we will proceed as per the code of conduct.’

The Election Commission has implemented the election code of conduct from 12 midnight on Magh 4 for the election of members of the House of Representatives to be held on Falgun 21. However, the Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee had organized the meeting after some candidates and party leaders/workers here were found to have violated the code of conduct.
