Gagan Thapa, who visited Madhesh for the first time after being elected as the president, was welcomed by leaders and cadres including Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav.
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa arrived in Sarlahi-4, where he is a candidate, on Monday.
President Thapa told the cadres at the Nepali Congress party office in Dhankaul Bazaar that he had come here to work as a servant. He pledged to spend the next five years here among the people and do many things including education, health. He said that the lifestyle and festivals of Terai Madhesh would be an inspiration for him. Thapa will spend three days meeting voters from his constituency.
President Thapa came to Sarlahi from Kathmandu via Simara Airport. He is contesting the election against outgoing MP from the same constituency, Amresh Kumar Singh. Singh has been winning elections from the constituency continuously since 2070 BS. Singh has filed his candidacy from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh this time.
Thapa, who has already been announced as the future Prime Minister by the party, was welcomed by leaders and cadres at Bagmati Karmaiya on the Sarlahi-Rautahat border.
