The case of Rampukar Sah, the then mayor of Kalyanpur Municipality in the district, who was caught red-handed with a bribe of Rs 100,000, has been scheduled for hearing today. The case has been scheduled for Monday for hearing at the Special Court in Kathmandu.
According to the court, the case has been referred to the joint bench of Judges Sudarshan Dev Bhatta, Hemant Rawal and Umesh Koirala for hearing. A team of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had arrested Sah from the municipality on Ashad 32.
The CIAA had caught him red-handed from the office when he had already taken a bribe of Rs 100,000 from a representative of the consumer committee while handing over a check for payment after the completion of the drain construction project in Kalyanpur 6.
After investigation, the CIAA had filed a case against him in the special court on July 23, alleging that Sah had taken a bribe of Rs 100,000 from a service recipient for the purpose of making the payment.
The Commission has demanded a fine of Rs 100,000 and imprisonment under sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.
In this case, the CIAA has also registered a corruption case against the Chairperson of the Consumers' Committee, Jashoda Kumari, who is also the complainant, on November 26, alleging that the CIAA changed her statement. It has been demanded that Jashoda be punished with imprisonment and fine as per the provisions of Sub-section (3) of Section 3 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, by fixing a fine of one lakh rupees as per the directions of Sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the same Act.
The court has also forwarded Jashoda's case along with the case of the suspended Mayor Sah and has also fixed the presentation of her case today.
