More than 48 people were injured in dog bites in various areas of Gadhimai Municipality, Rautahat, on Wednesday.

Children, elderly people and women were injured in dog bites. Among the injured, 5 people with head injuries have been referred to Birgunj. Anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) has been given to those injured in dog bites, said Dr. Murari Thakur, head of the Gaur Provincial Hospital.

Dr. Thakur, who sent out the patient who appeared sensitive due to head injuries, had also informed Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal about the injured in dog bites. According to Gaur Hospital, 5 out of 48 people injured in rabid dog bites have been referred to Birgunj and 43 have been given ARV.

Children, elderly people and women walking on the road and staying at home in wards 1, 4, 6 and 8 of Gadmai Municipality were bitten. Most of them suffered injuries on their cheeks, hands and heads, according to Gaur Hospital.

Fear has spread among the locals after the increase in rabid dog attacks. Gadhimai Municipality Mayor Shyam Yadav said he has requested the police to control the rabid dogs. “There is a situation of fear in sending children to school and the elderly to leave their homes,” he said. “We have alerted everyone.”
