The Aware Youth Campaign has provided financial assistance to Om Prakash Das of Khadakpur, Bode Barsain Municipality-10, Saptari.
Das, who had secured a full scholarship in the MBBS entrance exam, was facing a shortage of hostel and other expenses when the youth associated with the campaign reached his house and provided financial assistance of Rs 21,050.
‘After receiving information about the problem of hostel expenses for students from poor families, we immediately provided all possible assistance,’ said campaign leader Pushpendra Sah. ‘We will continue to provide assistance in the coming days as well.’ Youth associated with the campaign, Surendra Sah, Raju Yadav, Rajkishore Yadav, Shivnath Sah, and others, provided assistance.
Das, who comes from a Dalit poor family, had prepared for the MBBS entrance exam by working as an electrician to raise funds for his studies. He withdrew his name from the Madhesi Dalit quota in the MBBS entrance exam conducted by the Medical Education Commission on Kartik 15.
The family has stated that even though Das got admitted to the Rapti Institute of Health Sciences, Dang on Poush 6, he is still facing a shortage of hostel, dress, books and copy expenses. The amount of Rs 64,500 taken as a deposit and other expenses for admission to the college and some of the interest for commuting to and from Dang has already been spent.
The amount of Rs 13,500 for the dress is yet to be paid, while ‘Kantipur’ had earlier published news about the problem of raising the monthly Rs 15,000 for hostel expenses.
