The municipality is going to support Om Prakash Das of Bode Barsain Municipality-10, Khadakpur, Saptari, who got a full scholarship in the MBBS entrance exam.

After the news was published in ‘Kantipur’ about the shortage of a slave from a poor Dalit family, Mayor Atesh Kumar Singh went to his house and got more information.

‘With the aim of helping him in his studies, we have gone to his house and got more information,’ said Mayor Singh, ‘We are supporting him after taking a decision from the municipal administration, we will not let students who have diligently and painstakingly enrolled in full scholarships be affected by financial shortage in their studies.’

Working as an electrician to meet their study expenses, Om Prakash has withdrawn his name from the Madhesi Dalit quota in the MBBS entrance exam conducted by the Medical Education Commission on October 15.

After the family borrowed Rs 100,000 on interest from a villager to get him admitted and spent it on his travel to and from Dang, they are having trouble raising the Rs 15,000 monthly hostel expenses.

When Om Prakash was admitted to Rapti Institute of Health Sciences, Dang on Poush 6, 64,500 rupees were spent on bail and other expenses, and another 13,500 rupees for the dress are yet to be paid.
