The 211th Parsagarhi Vijay Utsav is being celebrated on Poush 19, jointly organized by Parsagarhi Municipality, Parsagarhi Temple Management Committee, and Shree Jang Gana Birgunj.
The organizing committee informed about the preparations for the Vijay Utsav through a press conference organized on Wednesday in the premises of the Parsagarhi Temple.
On this occasion, Narayan Poudel, Chief of the Health and Social Development Branch of Parsagarhi Municipality, gave detailed information about the program.
This Vijay Utsav is celebrated every year on Poush 19 in the historical memory of Nepal's victory in the battle against the British army of the East India Company on Poush 18 and 19, Bikram Sambat 1871.
The battle was fought under the leadership of Ranjit Chaudhary, a local of Parsagarhi. On the day of the Vijay Utsav, students from more than a dozen community schools within Parsagarhi Municipality will participate in the program with tableaux. The Tourism Minister of Madhesh Province and the heads of all 14 municipalities of the district have also been invited to the program.
Khukuri dance, Nepali Army band music, and local Tharu cultural dance will be presented in the program. A historical rally will also be held on the occasion. In addition to honoring the brave ancestors, various stalls will also be set up to promote local products.
At the press conference, Parsagarhi Temple Management Committee Chairman Ram Janam Chaudhary, Mayor Gokarna Pathak, and social worker Brij Mohan Chaudhary said that the Parsagarhi battle played an important role in saving the country.
They mentioned that this battle was not just a local one but a historical struggle fought for nationalism. They also expressed their belief that the Parsagarhi Vijay Utsav would work to connect history, identity, and national consciousness.
The speakers complained that although Parsa district is named after Parsagarhi, other stakeholders have not paid attention to the preservation, publicity, and promotion of Parsagarhi. Mayor Pathak said that the municipality is facing difficulties in conducting development programs here as the land of Parsagarhi is under the grip of encroachment.
He said that in the current fiscal year too, the municipality has allocated Rs 1 million to prepare a detailed DPR of Parsagarhi, but due to lack of land, the DPR could not be prepared. He said that the budget allocated by the municipality for Parsagadhi has been wasted over the years.
