A worker died on the spot when a boiler (a container used to heat fuel or water) exploded at the Jyoti Distillery located in Katahariya Municipality-9, Rautahat on Saturday morning.

Six workers were injured in the explosion. Three of the injured are in critical condition.

Laxman Yadav, 45, of Baluwa village, Katahariya Municipality-9, among the eight people working at the distillery, died on the spot when a fuel or water heating container exploded in the morning. 

District Police Chief SP Rabin Karki confirmed the incident and informed that a team including a DSP has been deployed from the district to the scene. ‘There have been deaths and half a dozen injuries in the explosion,’ he said, ‘A team has been deployed to investigate the incident.’ 

The distillery premises have been damaged due to the powerful explosion. According to the police, the deceased Yadav was blown away by the explosion and taken across the road. According to SP Karki, the explosion occurred when one of the eight people on duty went out to smoke. That is why he survived.

According to the district police, Rahmod Alam, Pramjit Yadav, and Jagdish Yadav, who worked at the distillery, were injured in the explosion. Jagadish's hands and feet are burnt. His condition is critical. Another injured person, Bigan Yadav, also has burnt hands and feet. His condition is also critical, police said. 

Another injured person, Mukesh Yadav, also has burnt hands and feet. He is also critical. Another Kailash Mali is also injured. The injured have been referred to Birgaj by ambulance after initial treatment. Police said that preparations are underway to take the injured to the capital. Police said that the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained.

SP Karki said that police have been mobilized from Garuda and Bijaipur to the blast area.
