Maiti Nepal, an organization working in the field of human trafficking control, has rescued 128 women and children from the border in 2025. The branch made the annual data public at the annual review seminar organized by Maiti Nepal Birgunj Periodic Home in Birgunj on Wednesday.

Presenting the annual statistics, the branch's chief supervisor Goma Poudel said that during this period, one and a half dozen women and children were rescued from India, 281 were provided shelter assistance, 124 Nepal Police and other agencies entrusted them with the protection of those in various problems.

During the year, the Home Ministry reunited 275 women and children, sent 5 to other and Maiti Nepal's central offices, and 33 were sent home directly from the Nepal-India border.

According to Poudel, most of those going from Nepal to India this year are women going to networking companies operating in various cities in India. She said that it has been found that those going to third countries through the Birgunj border are using their passports in the hands of others and making excuses that they went to the market.

Some women cross the border wearing Muslim religious attire (niqab), brokers use women's guardians to reach the border, and the attraction of going to India is increasing due to employment opportunities and financial temptations, Poudel said.

Birgunj Metropolitan City Mayor Rajeshman Singh said that human trafficking is one of the major crimes in Nepal and it is unfortunate that the Birgunj border is being used more for this purpose. He also said that the metropolis is ready to join hands with Maiti Nepal in the field of trafficking control.
