Life in the Terai Madhes, including Sarlahi, has been affected by the extreme cold. There has been no sunshine here since Friday. As the cold weather has intensified, there has been less activity in the markets and streets.

Although the cold has affected the poorest families the most, the concerned bodies have not been able to pay attention.

The daily life of the common people is being greatly affected by the continuous cold. Especially the poor living in tents and huts and families earning a living by daily wages have been affected the most by the cold. Due to the freezing cold, the workers are facing problems in running their families as they are unable to go to work.

The local government and the district-based Disaster Management Committee and other stakeholders have not shown interest in providing warmth to the cold-affected people. Sita Malli of Kaudena, Kaudena Rural Municipality-3, said that she is enduring the cold with straw as she does not have warm clothes and blankets to cover her body. "The cold has increased greatly, I am trying to escape the cold as much as possible with old torn clothes at home," she said, "The cold is making it difficult to even work for wages."
