The vote-splitting process for the vacant post of Speaker of the Madhes Provincial Assembly has begun. The election is currently underway after discussions on the proposal registered at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat for the selection of the Speaker.

The first proposal has been registered to make Ram Ashish Yadav of JSP the Speaker. He was said to be supported by seven parties including the Nepali Congress during the discussion on the proposal.

The Nepali Congress, Janmat Party, CPN Maoist Center, CPN Unified Socialist Party, Democratic Socialist Party (LOSP) Nepal and Nagarik Unmukti Party have announced that they will vote for Yadav. These seven parties have 77 provincial assembly members in the Madhesh Provincial Assembly. On that basis, Yadav is certain to become the Speaker.

Three parties will support CPN-UML candidate Triloki Prasad Yadav. CPN-UML, Nepal Federal Socialist Party and RPP MPs have announced that they will vote for Triloki. These three parties have only 27 provincial assembly members.

Currently, 104 out of a total of 107 provincial assembly members remain in the Madhesh Provincial Assembly. CPN-UML's Dipendra Thakur, JSP's Saroj Singh Kushwaha and LOSP's Abhiram Sharma are suspended.
