Gudar, a 52-year-old cobbler from Lahan Municipality-18, works as a shoe repairman. His family runs on the income he earns from this. However, he is very poor financially and has not been able to go to work for a week now.

A week ago, his wife Domani Devi Mochi passed away at a young age. She had been ill for some time. Domani and Gudar have five daughters and a son. After Domani's death, he was unable to leave his family in grief and went to work.

Since he could not go to work, he had to ask for help from his neighbors and light the stove in the evening and morning. In this situation, the Lahan Municipality has provided relief materials to this family. After the municipality provided one quintal of rice, three kilos of pulses, salt, oil and a bag of fiber syrup, he expressed his gratitude with emotion.

'We had asked for help from our neighbors after the food and water in the house ran out, but this help from the municipality at this time is a great relief for me,' Gudar said emotionally, 'At first glance, there are some relief materials, but for us poor people, this is a big thing at a time like this.'

The municipality team led by Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary has also provided relief to the family of 70-year-old Bachkuni Saday of Lahan Municipality-18. He also died last week.

Not only them, the municipality has provided relief to hundreds of such families in the mourning of death since 2079 BS. Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary said that he had seen the poor, Dalits and the underprivileged living on daily wages in the past, and had launched this program to end it.

‘It is very difficult for those who work daily to support their families, so I have launched this program so that they do not have to go hungry,’ said Mayor Chaudhary. ‘In a way, this is also a humanitarian act, it also gives the impression that there is a state among Dalit poor citizens.’

Along with relief materials, the municipality has been providing financial assistance of five thousand rupees to families of the Muhasar community, which is considered the most deprived among Dalits. Along with this, Mayor Chaudhary said that they also help in building houses by looking at the condition of the houses when they go to hand over the relief materials.

Apart from this, the municipality has also been providing firewood to the residents of the city to cremate the bodies.
