Among the seven accused including the rural municipality chairman Om Prakash Mandal, Ram Narayan Mandal of the then Belhi Chapena VDC-3 (currently Rajgadh-4) appeared before the Saptari District Court on Wednesday.
During the hearing on Wednesday and Thursday, a single bench of Judge Mahendra Bahadur Thapa Chhetri ordered Ram Narayan to be released on a bail of Rs 200,000.
He was released on bail on Thursday, said the court's information officer Umesh Kumar Aryal. An arrest warrant was issued against them on 15 Baisakh 2078 in the murder of Jantridas Bairagi, a priest of the Ram Janaki Temple located in the then Belhi Chapena VDC-3 on 30 Shrawan 2055.
The case was adjourned for almost 10 months after Om Prakash, one of the accused, was elected as the chairman of the CPN-UML in the local level elections on 30 Baisakh 2079. The case was adjourned by the bench of Judge Hemant Rawal on 14 Falgun 2079 after he failed to appear within the time limit issued by the court and the police did not arrest him.
Even though the accused in the case, Ram Narayan, appeared in court and was released, the rural municipality chairman Om Prakash, his father Gangaram Mandal, the then Belhi Chapena VDC chairman, Ramdev Sada Musahar of the same place, Manik Sharma, Bachcha Yadav alias Baukai, and Volichan Sada Musahar are still absconding. According to the charge sheet, the dispute arose when chairman Om Prakash's father Gangaram refused to give the temple 11 bighas of paddy land.
